Vortex
Posted by erin at January 22, 2003 03:45 PMIt turns out that the girl sitting next to N., right now, is reading Dave's blog, because she used to be one of his roommates.
Or something.
The Canadian (not Tum, but John) has met the real Frank Abingale, Jr., and talked with him for a while, as he was at the Catch Me if You Can premiere party. But then again, the Canadian also interview Gibson (maybe?).
N once went to a Troma party. My roommate also knows some Troma people. To the extent where she's gotten free DVD's from them.
But then again, my roommate also knew a member of the Pro Yo team - the guy who always wear goggles. Outch, perhaps? She didn't remember his name. She has also... get this... dated Moby briefly. They are still good friends, and he emails her a lot. I didn't quite believe her at first, but she produced a picture.
N is pretty sure he is a vortex of some kind, which reminds me of the movie Sudden Manhattan, an Adrian Shelly film that I liked that I don't think anyone else would.

I'm not in the least surprised your roommate has dated Moby. He's such a big dork, and he lives in New York...
Have you read his blog?? DORK! It's great.

I glanced at it. Seemed somewhat dorky.
Maybe I should tell him to read jerksquad.

To clarify, the girl who stares at the back of my head all day has a boyfriend who roomed with Dave in, I believe, law school.
Incidentally, this is the same girl who disliked my use of the word flibertigibbet (despite the fact that it is used in City of Lost Children ).
Now, someone can tell Dave, Dave can tell her boyfriend, and I can get in trouble.
Thank you, universe. This is why, at the end of the day, I am always held accountable for anything even slightly nasty I have ever said about anyone in any context.
You would think that I would learn, but I don't.

Isn't City of Lost Children a movie in French, and thus, English words such as "flibertigibbet" woulnd't be used? Or do they have anyone speaking English at some point? (I don't remember the movie that well...)

Speaking of City Of Lost Children, Adan and I watched that earlier this week. It was GREAT. I loved it.

Erin, I can't believe that you've actually seen Sudden Manhattan, 'cause I too have seen it. It was pretty cool, actually, particularly since I was a big Hal Hartley fan at the time. (and Trust is an excellent film)
I did actually interview William Gibson at the same film festival that Sudden Manhattan played at (in Vancouver). New Rose Hotel was playing (which I hadn't seen and have since only made it through half an hour of) and he was, uh, promoting/explaining it. Pretty cool guy. The highlight of my existence was when he agreed with me that Patti Smith's "Rock'n'Roll Nigger" would be the perfect song to play during a key scene in Neuromancer (when they raid the pyramid).
I've seen Gibson a couple of times since, which isn't remarkable since he lives close by to my house in Vancouver.
Strangely enough, I also interviewed Adrienne Shelly at that same film festival. She was the first person I ever interviewed for my university paper.
It's a shame that NYU has such a lame student paper. They can be pretty cool.
btw, City of Lost Children is awesome. A shame about Alien 4, though.

Oh.. on the Moby subject, my girlfriend's roommate was working very recently on a film starring Christina Ricci, who felt drawn to confess her life to this friend. Actresses...
Anyway, the point is that apparently Christina Ricci is currently dating Moby. They've only had sex once, and decided that now they must have their relationship on a non-sex basis, since uh, I don't know, sex is complicated?
How very strange.

Ah - the Canadian.
Despite your dubiously provided information, I agree with you. Trust is an excellent film. Possibly his best.

Hmmm.... maybe I could throw a party, and invite Moby, and Christina Ricci.
Then they could make fun of my apartment!
Wheeee!!

And nothing makes a party like Rick killing your roommate! Wheee! (You're just not gonna invite Rick and therefore ruin everyone's good time, aren't you?)

Well, I don’t know what sort of trouble you can get in… other than the fact that I found out about this a few days ago while riding a bus, and, for the first time in my life I couldn’t stand up, hold my gym bag, and hold my brief case at the same time. Despite the fact that there are so many damn lawyers and even more support staff, it is a pretty small world. Life is like this (which makes Frank Abignale’s story, at least the way it was told in the movie, not the book, quite unlikely.)
In fact, I actually co-authored an article with someone at N and B’s firm, but 1) I don’t drop names (though this is probably a form of dropping); 2) and it isn’t probably a good idea to mention it to either of them because I will probably get into more trouble with my blog then before.
