Things I have learned from anime

A conversation at work this morning lead to the reading of one of Allison’s old blog entries. It turns out that one can learn important life lessons from watching anime. Here are a few of the lessons I have learned from watching anime:

  1. If your father or uncle has built a mech, you are the only person in the entire universe who can pilot it.
  2. The best way (the only way) to find true love is to transfer to another school.
  3. When running late for school, placing toast in one's mouth as one sprints is not a choking hazard, rather, it will help one go faster.
  4. If you have a crush on someone who turns out to be the same gender as you, (or indeed, they tend to change genders) this will not make you question your sexuality at all.
  5. A cat makes a good emergency food supply.
  6. A triangle is a stable geometric shape – so why aren’t love triangles stable?
  7. Never upset a student council if they settle disputes by fencing.
  8. Finding the dragonballs is a long a perilous journey, on which some of your companions will die – but no matter! You can use your one dragonball wish to bring them all back to life.
  9. If you want to be a pop idol, the best way to jump-start your career is to get help from two magical aliens who have the ability to age you by 6 years. (I have proof from three sources on this one - it must be true.)
  10. Some of the best girls are robots. Or angels. Or angel-robots.
  11. Finally, why do giant robots have arms? To hold giant swords.

That reminds me of The Laws of Anime.

Yes, I know, but I don't really think the Laws of Anime are well written enough.

Another rule: If you are born with any slight degree of psychic or magical power, it will be your destiny to save the world from some malevalant force by sheer luck and determination while having some sort of life-changing revalation. There's also a one in three chance that you'll get the girl in the end.

Psychic anime/manga follows the rule of "Noooooo! BOOM!" as spelled out in Even a Monkey Can Draw Manga.
