Another 50 episodes, and Naruto still sucks

My mom called the day before Thanksgiving and said the power had gone out due to a storm. And she was bored, it being 9pm and my dad was asleep and she couldn't read by kerosene-lamp-light, not with her eyes.

But then she didn't call back so I don't know if the turkey was raw or what.

Meanwhile in the city I ate about three Thanksgiving dinners in the past week, all of which were superb.

I also dyed my hair! Wheeee! Bleaching your hair by yourself is not recommended, folks!

N. and I got up to episode 50 or so of Naruto, when Rock Lee fights Gaara. Let's put it this way, the following episodes of Naruto are good: eps. 30-35, eps. 48-51. That's all folks. Maybe there are other episodes later which are OK, but you might as well just read the manga or watch the rest on fast-forward. Me and N. just like shouting at ninjas to be better, damnit. I swear to god, the background department just keeps going on hiatus.

I've only read the manga, but as far as the current crop of Shonen stuff goes the Naruto manga isn't too bad. The best thing I can think to say about it is that at least Kishimoto throws some self-depreciating subtext into the fold, rather than just ripping off better artists and pretending he's revolutionizing genre manga everywhere (see Flame of Recca or any number of plain sports manga).

And, you should keep in mind that it's not so much a ninja anime (like Ninja Bugeicho) but rather as a sports anime (like Ashita no Joe), where being a Ninja is the sport.

What's the story bit from episodes 30-35, and 48-51, by the way?
